Userinit.exe registry changes on first boot of clone machine

Hello Team,

I have a issue and want to understand how userinit registry works when a clone machine starts. So the below is the scenario:

I have a Virtual machine where I have modified the registry path for userinit.exe (HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\userinit) to c:\programfiles\userint\userinit.exe

I restart the machine and the path remains the same.

But when I clone a machine and power it on and check for this registry key that changes as below:

c:\windows\system32\userinit.exe,c:\programfiles\userint\userinit.exe,

I want to know why this is changing and what triggers this change.

I already did a search on this and do not find anything relevant apart from the below link:

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc939862.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396

But still I am unable to understand what is causing the change in registry value.

Can anyone through some light on this?

Regards,

Suman Rout
