We had a power failure when upgrading a VCSA from vCenter Appliance 6.7 Update 3g (6.7.0.44000) to vCenter Appliance 6.7 Update 3j (6.7.0.45000) It was in the staging process when the power failed.
Once the power was restored I started seeing the the message on the management page "cannot login update installation in progress" in a red banner between the password line and login button.
I was able to log in to the vCenter web GUI and manage the environment but the system was unpatched
I connected the patch ISO to the vCenter VM
I enabled the Shell and connected via SSH
I ran the following commands
software-packages stage –-iso
software-packages list –-staged
software-packages install –-staged
Patch completed and said system had to reboot to complete
rebooted appliance
Could log in and manage environment and patch level showed vCenter Appliance 6.7 Update 3j (6.7.0.45000)
Console, SSH and powercli all work yet still get error cannot login update installation in progress when I attempt to open the Administration page
