Containers and single service VM's

Hello all,

I was just reading this: VMs are houses, containers are apartments! | Settlersoman - A settler in the SDDC world. and got thinking about the possibility of running very low demand guest's with cut down OS's running say just Exchange or another app.  With 6.5, are we much nearer that possibility?  Does anyone have a link to something they consider authoritive on the subject?
