Connect Update Manager to VCenter Server appliance

Hi,

Environment: VSphere ESXi 6.0 recently updated.

I use the v6 VCenter Server Appliance (which requires setting its password INCLUDING special character(s)).

In connection to this server appliance I wanted to install the VUM in a regular Win2012R2 server.  The installation of MS SQL Server 2012 empedded completed successfully.   After that I was required to enter the vcenter server name and login creds.  I entered it, using the password with the required special characters (actually a dash).  Bummer.  Immediately after clicking 'Next' the following error popped up:

'Setup failed with an unknown error.  vCenter server credentials could not be validated.'

The VUM install log displays error 199.

After some googling I find that this error is caused by using special characters in the vcenter server password.  I tried to proceed by omitting the special character in the password.  Then the error changed to 'invalid username or password' dialog.  Which prooved to me that the error was probably caused by the special character in the password

So I cannot install the vcenter server appliance WITHOUT using special characters in the password, AND an update manager server cannot be connected to a VCenter Server server WITH special characters in the password.

So, how do I actually connect a VUM to my VCenter Server Appliance?

Thanks for any help on this
