I'm using vSphere Server 5.5.0 and created an Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS (64bit) template through the web interface. When I power on the template and log on, I notice that there are a lot of scsi_eh_xxx and scsi_efk_xxx processes running (approximately 66 total). We have an older Ubuntu 14.04 template that doesn't show this issue (i.e., it only shows 3 total scsi_xxxxx processes running), so I started doing some investigating. The additional processes in the newer template all appear to be "scsi : ahci". I also notice that the new 14.04.2 template shows a "SATA Controller 0" listed under the hardware summary, while the older template does not have this listed. I'm not too familiar with SATA, SCSI, etc., so not sure if this could be the reason for the additional processes showing in the newer template. What's interesting is that there is no apparant way to disable this when creating a new template, either, as the option is greyed-out. Is this something forced when creating a version 10 hardware VM? Or is there something else that is causing this? Thanks.
